What’s so special about this beach? It didn’t exist until recently.

Barcelona and Madrid have redeveloped their former industrial waterfronts into world class public spaces. The first step for each was tunneling the transit corridors that cut their waterfronts off from the cities. Next was designing and implementing a series of parks, open space, and bicycling infrastructure. The result is that these once forgotten waterfronts have quickly become the most popular places in their respective cities for residents and tourists alike.
