i-sustain (I-S) is the website for two synergistic organizations with the shared mission of helping cities to use substantially less resources while improving the well-being of its citizens. The International Sustainability Institute (ISI), a 501-C3 non-profit, brings leaders from public, private and academic sectors together to implement superior urban strategies in their own cities. International Sustainable Solutions (ISS), a for profit corporation, inspires urban leaders about global best practices in sustainability by taking them to cities throughout the world that provide exceptional and replicable examples. ISS and ISI each have their own dedicated sections and content within this website, but share a common Resource Center, Photo Gallery and Contact Info.

Pacific Northwest Urban Sustainability Tours
Pacific Northwest Urban Sustainability Tour 2007

We lead Sustainability Study Tours of the Pacific Northwest bioregion for groups of 10 or more. Major cities include Portland, Oregon; Seattle, Washington and Vancouver, BC; however we also go to smaller cities of interest, and even forestry, farm and wine regions. We see excellent examples of high performance buildings, public transit, recycling, neighborhood activism, habitat restoration, natural stormwater management, farmers markets, local organic farms, wineries and ecologically certified forests. We also meet the people and hear about the policies that make the region such a great example of sustainability.
